Things are moving about behind the scenes!! I'm putting together a short-list of founding brumby breeds, the bloodlines of which will be available at the start of the game. I'll probably choose a handful at first, introducing more as the game goes on. Bloodlines will affect the potential character stats, heights, builds, inheritable patterns etc.

The heritage for characters will play a role in their strengths and weaknesses. Ie, brumbies more closely related to thoroughbreds would be more inclined to be speedier but lack stamina, those closer to the draft breeds would be stronger but hampered on speed, arabian/barb bloodlines for stamina and speed but lacking in strength etc.

Those that used to play Kosciusko will remember the fight-stat system which I'm hoping will be greatly improved and much easier to manage with the automated simulation aspect!

In an effort to be thorough with research and find out which breeds everyone expects, I'm looking for suggestions! Please note, breeds such as the Brumby, Australian Stock Horse and Waler (aka "New South Waler") are included by default, since they all descended from these bloodlines!

To make a suggestion, just reply to this journal with some links to the origin and history of the breed, with proof that it was evident in the Australian feral horse population circa 1850. If you spot a mistake, please let me know! I crave knowledge and facts :D Of course there is some flexibility for the sake of fun and fiction in the actual game, but the more evidence you can present, the better!

Research required

These are breeds that were potentially available, or founder bloodlines of available breeds, more research required to figure out if the pureblood versions would have been available as founding brumby stock

  • Friesain - old enough, potential founder bloodlines for the trotters above, to confirm availability in Aus

Unavailable breeds

These breeds have been suggested/considered that are either too new, did exist in 1850 but were not exported to Australia at the time, or no evidence can be found that they were in the country at the time.

  • Andalusian - not exported to Australia until 1971
  • Halflinger? - not exported to Australia until 1974 - possibly in the foundation of other draft breeds that were

The 'true' waler is now pretty much bred out, but still.
